The Health & Wellness Teacher (Grades 6–8), under the supervision of the Executive Director, creates a Spanish dual-language immersion classroom that fosters students’ understanding of health, nutrition, human biology, and mental well-being. This role supports students in developing lifelong healthy habits and informed decision-making.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver Health Education instruction aligned with school and state standards.
- Teach topics including physiology, nutrition, anatomy, biological functions, hygiene, and mental health.
- Develop students’ understanding of healthy lifestyles and wellness practices.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and assessments in compliance with district policies and applicable laws.
- Communicate effectively with students and families; encourage family engagement.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including Physical Education staff and grade-level teams.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school committees.
- Support school-wide events such as conferences, curriculum nights, and family engagement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Spanish language proficiency required, native or academic level (instruction is delivered in Spanish).
- Strong knowledge of health education content and instructional best practices, including differentiated instruction.
- Ability to promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being among adolescents.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and data systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and self-reflection.
Education & Experience
- Valid Minnesota teaching license in Health Education.
- Must pass a criminal background check and meet all district employment requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds (e.g., classroom materials, equipment).
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the day.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing, writing, and reading.
